    The North Carolina General Assembly enacted PDF of Article 38 of Chapter 90, the Respiratory Care Practice Act, section 90-661 says it shall be unlawful for any person who is not currently licensed under that article to engage in the practice of respiratory care, use the title respiratory care practitioner, or use the letters RCP, RTT, or RT. Section 90-653 says each applicant for licensure shall submit written evidence of completing the minimal requirements of a respiratory care education program approved by the Commission for Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs, or the Canadian Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy Education, written evidence of Basic Cardiac Life Support recognized by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or the American Safety and Health Institute, and shall pass the entry-level examination given by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. Section 90-664 says the requirements of the article shall not apply to a person performing work incidental to another licensed profession who does not represent himself or herself as a respiratory care practitioner, a student or trainee working under the direct supervision of a respiratory care practitioner, a respiratory care practitioner serving in the Armed Forces or the Public Health Service of the United States or employed by the Veterans Administration when performing duties associated with that service or employment, or a person who performs only support activities as defined in G.S. 90-648(13). The Armed Forces, Public Health Service, and Veterans Administration exception does not exempt employment by a civilian employer. The article does not name 68V.
